UnderwareDesign.com Gets A New Skin
By Kevin Picone 15,Aug,2010
Yes, believe it or not, UnderwareDesign.com has finally had something of a long overdue face lift. The previous home page had been online for 7.5 years, even though it was only meant to be in service for a fraction of that time. But you know, life gets in the way as they say, focusing on product development rather than the site. It's not like we've ignored this, having allocated time previously, but as always the scope of the project just got out of hand. So, rather than replace the whole thing in one big shot, we've formulated a plan for the sites future migration.

The first step in this process is a clear and culling phase (what you're looking at now), you can think of this as a simplification of the site really. This means taking a big stick to some of our older applications and removing them. Many of those programs were written up to a decade ago, as such, they tend to suffer compatibility issues on modern operating systems such as Windows Vista & Windows 7, or are just obsolete today. Not all legacy programs are going though, as we'll still be keeping some applications as well as the source code collections, due to their ongoing popularity.

Design wise, this new skin is much the same as the previous layout, with a few formatting exceptions. The main change has been a complete replacement of the sites backend, which allows for greater control over the sites appearance than before. Allowing for the site design and style to be separated from the content, which wasn't possible before. This subtle, but key change allows us to make global changes to the appearance and general functionality much easier in the future.

This is only the first stage of the migration, future changes will see a return of the some of the interactive controls. Until then, thanks for the visiting , and if you have site that links to UnderwareDesign.com then please update your links. Have fun
