nice comments in the video :)

don't kill yourself over the server migration. take your time, don't stress.
It's easy to start a program, but harder to finish it...

I think that means i am getting old and get side tracked too easy.

Things are slowly moving,  the last night have been toying with a new forum install and trying to suss out getting the updater to work with the old databases.   But for some reason the official updater is having issues..  Will keep at it..

For the forum, the jump from SMF 1.1.13 to 1.1.21 is only code changes. Both versions should be compatible without modifying the database.
https://gitlab.com/dgcomau/smf/-/compare/smf_1-1-13_install...smf_1-1-21_install?from_project_id=28538241 (I messed up the diff for install.php)

SMF 2.1 has significantly many more tables, and non-backward-compatible changes.
If you're thinking of migrating to a different forum, I wouldn't upgrade to unless you really have to.
Eg. the phpbb3 forum converter seems to require smf 1.1.x

Actually I didn't find any other converters on the web, most converters seem to convert to smf. I'm not even sure which forum packages are any good.

For url conversions, try using relative urls. It's what I do once our other staff finish building wordpress sites. I usually search https://...devsite....com/ and replace with /. Usually no problem, just got to watch the context of the replace. 9/10 times it's just a href or src link which are fine to have relative links.

Edit:
It seems you picked a pretty good forum to begin with, still in the top 11 for 2021 ;)

Yeah.. I was thinking down this road,  mostly if I couldn't get it working.  I've looked at the phpbb the other night but haven't installed it as yet.   Was just shifting through their boards also.  Couldn't hurt setting it another version and letting it rip.  Famous last words !

Makes two of us...  I'm so out of the loop

Who knew ??    Pretty sure that was Kohai choice tho.   The first version was i think invasion board or something like that.

Have had way too much family stuff going on the last few nights, but tonight i've been trying to step up to 1.1.21 but it's acting weird..  But it think that's because it's pulling a different version of the theme..  will patch it in the morning and see if that fixes it

I may have made a mess of the repository. The link I shared the other day was just diff from stock 1.1.13 to 1.1.21.

Here's all the commits I made:
https://gitlab.com/dgcomau/smf/-/network/master

So if you're jumping from 1.1.13 to 1.1.21 with php8 patches:
https://gitlab.com/dgcomau/smf/-/compare/smf_1-1-13_install...master?from_project_id=28538241&view=parallel

Or from stock 1.1.21 to 1.1.21 with php8 patches:

and hey presto i've been able to get version of the forum running and the upgrade from Dan's  1.1.21 to the latest, and it  seems to have worked this time..   it was dying before, even locally, figured that my complete noobie skills but seems to have been the some hard coded links in the databases that pointed back to this theme (the one I butchered :) ).   Which apparently the upgraded doesn't like..

so that's cool...  just off to backup the upgraded databases before going to bed..

we've got a naked SMF 2.0.18 running with the default  theme, lots of stuff missing from our butched theme here..  I didn't realize how much I'd messed with it over the years..  None the less a customizing this new theme we shall go..   might try and do it better this time..

Big C.

Looks like we're cutting it a lot finer than I'd hoped, but I do have several copies of the forum up and running.   Not much progress lately though as .. well,  my Mum has been very unwell,  more so than usual and combined with the shut down means no days off in recent times.   All of this makes it hard to do anything let alone trying to shift through the theme and work out the subtle changes.   .

I have got some stuff running the other day uch as our local tags which handle video streaming / YT/ VIMEO ...  PB syntax highlighting, and few other tags.   There's a few other custom includes to drag over and test, but I thin they should mostly work ok.   Meaning the new forum looks like the default SMF theme with a few tack on's for the time being.  Which is what this is ..
