Visual Basic for Applications within Microsoft Excel

I know that macros can be used by users in Excel. However, I didn't know its real power. Is Visual Basic for Application really powerful enough for game development within Excel? Unbelievable! The entrant is very creative in choosing language. In fact, the entry is an RPG(It is not a simple tic-tac-toe). Another question. Does Visual Basic for Applications belong to BASIC language? I suspect. ??? So many people say that Visual Basic is not a BASIC dialect.....:) Am I right?
