the very basic start of a very basic tracker

ok so gave up for a while and came back seems basic is not as basic as I thought it was I my idea is a basic midi tracker for some external gear but am having difficulty with simple stuff please tell me where I am going wrong and offer any advice or links to application tutorials ty
